Director of Engineering

Primary Function:

To manage all aspects of the Engineering department while formulating and implementing a strategy which is consistent with the goals of the Company as stated in the yearly strategic plan.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Continually support all Company core values.
  • Prepare a yearly budget and adhere to it while striving to meet our Company goals.
  • Work extensively and collaboratively with Product Managers, Sales, Production, and Customer Service in executing the company’s strategic plan.  Actively interface the Engineering department with all other departments within the company.
  • Manage all engineering resources.
  • Create and maintain all necessary files to meet CE certification as required by the European Union.
  • Create and manage monthly reports to be presented at management meetings illustrating the activities of the department.
  • Maintain a system which conforms and adheres to all our MRPII principles including BOM, part numbering and the ECN process.
  • Maintain both the CPPO and PAR processes while looking at constant improvements.
  • Create, establish and/or maintain the following processes:
    • Product Engineering
    • Employee Reviews
    • Project Tracking
  • Create and adhere to the following standards:
    • Part naming
    • CAD and Pro-E design
    • BOM structuring
    • Supplier catalogs
    • Calculation spreadsheets
    • Engineering information resources
  • Promote and maintain task accountability for not only the department, but also all its individuals.
  • Propose and support a time schedule for new product release and changes within current production machines.
  • Develop and grow the department, organizationally and talent wise, to help meet the company’s growth objectives.
  • Positively and professionally represent American Augers/Trencor at any and all industry functions and events like trade shows, customer visits, AEM meetings, etc.
  • Be the point of contact for engineering related legal matters as needed and necessary.
  • Champion Lean Initiatives within the engineering group and within the company.



  • Bachelor's degree in related field and five years management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.
  • Position requires excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and a sense of teamwork
  • Computer literate in CAD (Pro/E, Windchill, AutoCAD), Microsoft Office and MRP (like Macola ES)
  • Working knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems
